‘My Name Campaign’ Distributes Over 100 Free Birth Certificates to Children at Upper Costain CDC Camp

March 26, 2025, the Tiko Council, in partnership with the Humble Friends Association (HUMFRIEH), made a significant impact in the lives of children at the Upper Costain CDC camp by distributing over 100 free birth certificates as part of the ‘My Name Campaign’. This initiative aims to ensure that every child has access to their first essential document, a birth certificate, which is crucial for establishing identity and rights.

The distribution ceremony took place at the Upper Costain CDC camp committee venue, organized by HUMFRIEH in collaboration with the Tiko Council. The event was graced by dignitaries including Tiko Council’s Fourth Deputy Mayor, Waindim Rudolf; Chief of Administration, Mrs. Carolinda Achanga Bih; Chief of Socio-Cultural Affairs, Mr. Douala Dipita; Chief of the Bureau of Civil Status, Mrs. Anna Enanga; and Miss Dora Tiki from the Tiko Council Civil Status Staff. The CEO of HUMFRIEH, Madam Seraphine Douala, was also present to support this noble cause.

In the presence of the camp committee chairman, Mr. Nelson Itoe, and numerous camp residents, the Tiko Council team and HUMFRIEH took the opportunity to educate attendees on the importance of obtaining a birth certificate. This document is often seen as the first step towards identity and securing one’s rights, aligning perfectly with the campaign’s slogan: ‘My Name, My Identity, My Rights’.

The ‘My Name Campaign’ has been proactive, reaching out to various segments of the community. The Tiko Council has visited schools, health facilities, neighborhoods, churches, and even football tournament venues to raise awareness about the importance of birth certificates. During these visits, on-the-spot birth certificates have been issued, further simplifying the process for families.

This initiative not only underscores the Tiko Council’s commitment to ensuring every child’s right to identity but also highlights the collaborative efforts of local organizations in fostering community development and empowerment.

As the campaign continues to make strides, it is clear that the Tiko Council and its partners are dedicated to changing lives and building a better future for the children of the municipality.
